Alessandro Viola
Sicilian beauty in a bottle!
Alessandro Viola (brother of Aldo Viola) grew up with a dad who grew grapes for a living. As Alessandro got older, he noticed the trend of artisan, manual laboured wine without high-tech methods and the use of pesticides. This caught his attention, and after working with natural winemakers in both Georgia and Piedmont, he had the courage to start his own Domaine. It is situated just south of Alcamo in Western Sicily.
The project, which was initially called Uva Tantum and split with a partner, is now run by Alessandro Viola himself. Viola's domain covers 12 hectares, in three different sites with a mixed soil composition of chalk and clay. He works with the classical Sicilian grape varieties Nero D'Avola, Nerello Mascalese and Syrah. For the white wines the local signature grape Grillo is cultivated as well as Cataratto.
All of his parcels are organic certified.
