l'Abri Cellars

l'Abri Cellars

L'Abri Cellars is an urban winery, restaurant, & grocery store that was the slightly crazy idea of Frank Pasquier & Edgar Baudin. It is located in a historical area of Marseille, incredibly close to Notre Dame de la Garde.

A real chameleon, the 400 m2 place has been rehabilitated to accommodate vast and brand new vats where the grapes from its plots of the Domaine de Costebonne will be vinified from 2019. The space also responds to the other aspects of its activity (wine cellar and dining, culinary workshops, markets and events). All in a row and in transparency, l'Abri is therefore flexible & can unload crates of grapes and install stalls of greengrocers or fishermen according to the seasons.

What good is wine if we are not sharing? This is why the wine cellar quickly expanded with a culinary proposal based on the same values: transforming local products from the land and the sea in a short circuit.

Every week market gardeners, fishermen, breeders, florists, and beekeepers from the area and further afield – recently, the Voilier Bourlingue & Pacotille and its cargoes from Sicily – will come to offer their productions for sale. And who better than a producer to tell you the beautiful story of his products?

Because as its name suggests, l'Abri is a place where you feel good because the vast premises dressed by Amélie Baudin (Officina) also knows how to be familiar. The Mediterranean is there, strange suspensions in raffia with briquette counters painted with whitewash, zelliges dressing the towers with the trellis running up the ceiling, old postcards with crazy plants climbing in pencil on the walls. Even the pretty mosaic discovered during the works seems to want to tell us a fable.

All grapes are grown organically in the vineyards located in Eygalières in the Alpilles. It is harvested by hand and then brought back to their urban cellar in Marseille. The vinification is carried out using indigenous yeasts, in stainless steel vats, without fining or filtration. Only a pinch of sulphur is added during bottling (10 mg/l).

Enjoy!
