Maison en Belles Lies (Pierre Fenals)
Big and biodynamic Burgundy wines!
Pierre Fenals winery in Burgundy, which means something like 'The house with the beautiful lees,' is nothing but your average Domaine. So he quit his job and started his adventure of winemaking at the age of 52 - respect! He is an educated molecular biologist with a background in the Parisian fashion scene, only to do spectacular, natural wine from the most famous wine region in the world.
He is strongly inspired and influenced by the father of biodynamics - Rudolf Steiner - and all of his parcels are farmed biodynamically. He is educated in Beaune and worked with winemakers Jean-Louis Trapet in Gevrey-Chambertin, Marcel Lapierre in Villié-Morgon. Until 2010, he worked as cellar master for Emmanuel Giboulot just outside Beaune.
Pierre Fenals wines cover many cuvées, both more classic appellations as his 'Maranges 1er Cru' and more easy-going, modern wines from parcels in Beaujolais.
