Mazière (Fabrice Monnin)

Mazière (Fabrice Monnin)

From Languedoc in France, here is Domaine Mazière by Fabrice Monnin and his wife Momoko. In 2013, they decided to quit their winebar in Besançon, and move to Padern, to take over the domain. The couple did not have a lot of experience making wine, even though Fabrice Monnin had made wine with some inspiring people counting Pierre Overnoy, Jean-Pierre Robinot, Claude Courtois, Bruno Schueller and Jeff Coutelou.

Since the beginning, they have expanded the domain to 9 hectares, whereas most of them resides above Padern on the slopes of Mont Tauch. Some vines are as between 60-100 years old and the place has been organic for ages.

The parcels below.

Le Clot d’Estan: a parcel with an intense influence of limestone. The century-old rootstocks are a co-planting of more than a dusin different grapes. The cuvées Macabeu and Carignan come from this parcel.

Le Bajungle: a sunny south-facing parcel, that provide a high maturity in the grapes. Cuvée Grenache mainly come from this parcel.

Les Gleizes: a high-altitude, cool and windy north-facing parcel in about 500 meters above sea level. Cuvée Syrah comes from this parcel.
