2 Year Bender
Complex & floral with developed black pepper fruits and a mineral, earthy finish.
2 Year Bender comes from two small plots and two vintages. 33% 40-year-old 2019 Merlot on gravelly soils and 67% 2020 Syrah on clay and gravel about 20 years old near Lake Neuseidl am See.
Paul, Simon and David decided to create Kollectiv Peternell in the Austrian region of Burgenland, where they have been established since 2018. They have several experiences with winegrowers: Matassa, 2Naturkinder, Achillé and Partida Creus. They will continue their adventure in Austria, where they take possession of an ancient underground and vaulted cellar in Petronell-Carnuntum (which will give the name of the Collective).
They began to buy grapes from a small producer who works his vineyards biodynamically. Three local grape varieties, Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, and Welschriesling, will blend to create their first vintage in 2019.
In 2020 they began to collaborate with several biodynamic winegrowers in the region, which allows them to work with other grape varieties and increase their production. In the winery, they introduce different winemaking methods, acquiring amphorae, demijohns and old barrels with which they experiment.
Everything is harvested by hand for vinification, whole bunches are crushed, and they always ferment with their own yeasts. The pumpovers are carried out just after pressing, therefore during fermentation.
The hairy rhinoceros illustrating the label is a scarce prehistoric specimen we could only find in its region!
